Most people cringe at the thought of being on camera so they are hesitant to not only go on YouTube for all to see but are intimidated to even making a video. I get it. There is a good reason why I like to be behind the camera.
But I think it's too important to ignore that video is a powerful tool. Video allows you to tell your story and share with others what you do and how you can help them. Maybe you have thought about putting some video content out there. Maybe you've posted a video here and there on your social media platforms. But I'm here to encourage you to consider starting a YouTube channel. Here is why I think you should be on YouTube.
YouTube is the #2 search engine.
Did you know that YouTube is the second most used search engine right behind Google? It is and might surprise you to know that Google owns YouTube. Have you ever noticed that wen you search on google that there is a videos tab at the top right next to "all"? That means that people can find your content when they are searching on google. If they click on the videos tab, they can get several videos pertaining to their search criteria. If your videos are on YouTube and optimized for the right search terms, your video is likely to show up when people are searching for products or services that you offer.
People are watching more content online than ever before.
In 2014, YouTube surpassed the popularity of live television. We are becoming more accustomed to watching entertaining and informative content online like never before. With content so accessible on our phones, it's even more important to have your content available in many forms so that you can reach your ideal audience within an instant. That way they can learn more about you and what you offer. while on the go. Video is a great avenue for that. YouTube makes your content available anywhere at anytime.
You will have a leg up on the competition.
Your competition is probably NOT using YouTube. Only 9% of U.S. small businesses are using YouTube, and most of them are using it primarily as a repository for videos without a sound strategy. Just think of how your reach can grow by putting out content that spreads brand awareness, is educational and demonstrates how you or your service is the perfect fit for them. Now package that with the right search terms so your content gets discovered by more people who could benefit from what you can do for them. I guarantee your competitors are not using their YouTube with the right strategy to grow but you sure can.
Older age groups are using the platform more.
YouTube is more favorably rated by older age groups, and 51% of people over the age of 75 are using the channel. If your business or service caters to those who are retired or nearing retirement, think of the audience you have available to you right now. YouTube has been around for quite a while and doesn't appear to be slowing down so it's a good place to invest your time and resources to. Who knows how long TikTok or all of these other platforms will be around after a few years.
It's the perfect place to develop the "Know, Like and Trust" aspect of your marketing
It is evident that people buy from business they know, like and trust. That's why it's so important to put content out there to nurture that relationship. Brand awareness is where people get to know you. Your YouTube channel can be filled with videos explaining who you are and what you do. Video content also allows you to show how friendly and approachable you are and how you align with the same values your audience does. Next you can have content that shows you as the expert. Educate your audience on how you can solve their problem and why you are the expert in your field. This all builds the trust that leads to action.
